NITI Aayog member Balasubramaniam visits Karnataka Tribal Research Institute

NITI Aayog member Balasubramaniam visited the Karnataka Tribal Research Institute in Mysuru on Tuesday (July 28) and held discussions with officials and staff members.

He reviewed the institute’s activities, research initiatives, tribal studies, evaluation programmes, studies and awareness activities. He emphasised on the need to give greater importance to research and ensure documentation of the traditional knowledge, customs, food practices, folk narratives and languages of tribal communities.

He said the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs was ready to provide increased financial assistance for such initiatives. He suggested that the Karnataka Tribal Research Institute should collaborate with universities in the State for research activities and organise training workshops for tribal research scholars from different universities.

He also stressed the need to convert Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS) into multipurpose cooperative societies with the support of the Union Government and strengthen them financially.

Ganesh Nagarajan, Deputy Secretary of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Pratibha Sharma, Private Secretary to the NITI Aayog Member, manager Nitasha Sharma, H.S. Girijamba, Deputy Director of Karnataka Tribal Research Institute, and institute staff, were present.
