The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has asked for more details from its United States counterparts with respect to 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks “mastermind” Tahawwur Rana, according to agency sources.
The NIA has sent the request under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, through the Ministries of External and Home Affairs.
The queries are based on the interrogation of Rana, after he was extradited from the U.S. to India on April 10 and arrested by the agency in connection with the terror attacks in which 166 people were killed and close to 240 injured in 2008.
In July, the NIA had filed the first supplementary chargesheet against Rana, accusing him of being involved in a conspiracy by David Coleman Headley and other members of banned outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami to carry out terror attacks in different parts of India.
Following a court order in June, the agency has submitted a compliance report under Section 207 of the Criminal Procedure Code about the supply of documents linked to the previous chargesheet filed in 2011.
