The Deputy General Manager of New India Assurance (NIA) Company, M.V. Chandrasekar, inaugurated the state-of-the-art sewage and effluent treatment plant at the Thirumalai Mission Hospital in Ranipet on Wednesday .
In her presidential address, Bhooma Parthasarathy, Director, Thirumalai Mission Hospital, said the new facility, which costs ₹1 crore, has a capacity of 160 kiloliters. Initially, it will treat 40 kiloliters of wastewater per day. The purified water will be reused for agriculture, toilet flushing, and other non-potable applications within the hospital campus. Over time, the hospital aims to gradually scale up operations to utilise the full capacity of 160 kiloliters per day, she said.
Mr. Chandrasekar expressed his satisfaction at supporting the environmentally conscious initiative. “New India Assurance is the largest insurance company in Asia and has been actively supporting social development initiatives through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. The company has contributed ₹48 lakh from its CSR fund for the new STP,” he said.
On the occasion, Anand Rangachari, Chief Executive Officer, Thirumalai Mission Hospital; Kasthuri, zonal manager, New India Assurance; Raghavan, Director, Thirumalai Chemicals; Rajasekar, Medical Director, Thirumalai Mission Hospital; and Vidya, Trustee, Vedavalli Vidyalaya Group of Schools were present, a press release said.
