The new footwear unit, which is being promoted at Mayanur near Krishnarayapuram by Evervan Kothari Footwear Pvt. Ltd., is expected to provide jobs to 13,500 people. A large number of women are expected to be employed in the women.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay laid the foundation stone for the unit at a function at the Collector’s Office in Karur on Friday.

It is part of an integrated footwear manufacturing project spread over 30.05 acres. The project is envisioned as one of India’s largest export-oriented footwear manufacturing ecosystems, catering to leading global brands, including Adidas, and serving both domestic and international markets.

The facility is being redeveloped into a state-of-the-art footwear manufacturing unit under a joint venture with the Evervan Group, one of world’s largest footwear manufacturers, under the umbrella of Phoenix Kothari Footwear Ltd.

According to sources, the company had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu, under which the State government agreed to facilitate and support the implementation of the project. The project represents a major industrial investment in Tamil Nadu and is expected to make significant contributions by generating large-scale employment, empowering women through meaningful and sustainable employment. It will promote exports and thus boost foreign exchange earnings.

Sources added that ₹1,700 crore was earmarked for the manufacturing facility. Upon completion, the facility was expected to manufacture approximately 40 million pairs of footwear of Adidas annually for both domestic and export markets. The project would generate employment for approximately 13,500 people, mostly women.
