Nationwide cell broadcast test alert on May 2; people may receive emergency alert on mobile phones

As part of the drill, citizens may receive an emergency alert notification on their mobile phones, which could be accompanied by a loud sound or vibration. Officials have urged people not to panic as it does not indicate a real emergency.

The National Disaster Management Authority will conduct a nationwide test of the Cell Broadcast Alert System on Saturday (May 2) as part of efforts to strengthen emergency communication mechanisms.

The test will cover Delhi NCR and capital cities of all States and Union Territories, excluding border areas and poll-bound states.
