Naruvi Hospitals in Vellore has successfully performed advanced robotic knee surgery on a 54-year-old woman, who had been suffering from acute knee pain for long.

Addressing mediapersons here, G.V. Sampath, founder and chairman, Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, said Basudha Satpati, a native of West Bengal, was suffering from severe knee pain, for years. She had approached several health care providers in the past, and was told that due to her medical condition, her problem could not be solved.

The patient recently visited Naruvi Hospitals.  “An expert medical team of Department of Orthopaedics at the hospital made elaborate tests and diagnosis and concluded that she had to undergo a total knee replacement surgery with the advanced Smith and Nephew CORI (Computer Operated Real Intelligence) enabled system,” he said.

Mr. Sampath said that during conventional procedures, patients would normally suffer blood loss and tissue damage, but the CORI system had eliminated such problems. The patient was able to walk and climb stairs on the third day after surgery. The Hospital Chairman said that benefits of the robotic surgery included pinpointed precision, higher accuracy and success rate, and faster recovery of the patients.

Further, Mr. Sampath noted that the State government had recently announced a training and awareness programme on fire safety measures to prevent fire accidents, in which National Cadet Corps (NCC) schools and colleges would be a part of. Naruvi Hospitals would be part of the initiative as well.

The first phase of the training will be held in the hospital premises in association with the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department, he said.

On the occasion, Paul Henry, executive director, Aravindan Nair, Chief of Medical Services, Nithin Sampath, general manager, Naruvi Hospitals, were present.
