Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday condemned the State government for detaining secondary grade teachers who protested in Chennai for wage revision.

In a social media post, Mr. Nagenthran alleged that the DMK government spent lavishly on publicity and advertisements but failed to fulfil the genuine demands of these teachers.

He also alleged that the government had emptied the State’s treasury and failed to meet the demands of various sections. The people of the State would unseat the DMK from power in next year’s election, he added.

Dr. Anbumani, in a statement, alleged that the government had launched a crackdown on teachers who had been fighting for wage revision. He pointed out the wage gap between teachers who were appointed on or before March 31, 2009 and June 1, 2009.

When Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was the Leader of the Opposition, he had met the protesting teachers and extended support for their cause. However, after coming to power, the DMK failed to fulfil their demands, he added.
