Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday (May 28, 2026) proposed that the Bharat Ratna be conferred on N.T. Rama Rao at the party’s Mahanadu.

Paying tribute to the actor on his birth anniversary, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said NTR would remain in the hearts of the people as long as the Telugu race exists.

#Mahanadu2026#NTRLivesOn… pic.twitter.com/LNxr7zTh7w

He recalled that NTR started off as an ordinary employee and reached the position of Chief Minister within nine months of the TDP coming into existence, a feat few other leaders in the country could achieve. NTR’s contributions to the Telugu film industry were immense, Mr. Naidu said.

He said that under NTR’s stewardship the TDP emerged as a key player in national politics and had a role in the formation of governments at the Centre.

“NTR was a great leader. He stood as a symbol of self-respect for the Telugu race. He prioritised the welfare of people and earned a place in their hearts,” Mr. Naidu said, adding that NTR deserved the country’s highest civilian honour.
