Nadia’s bomb blast victim, Tamanna Khatun’s mother, attempted to die by suicide on Tuesday (December 30, 2025) night and was rushed to a hospital in Kolkata on Thursday (January 1, 2026) as her condition deteriorated. Family members and neighbours alleged that she took the step due to depression and insecurity over losing her daughter.

Sabina Yasmin, the deceased 10-year-old Tamanna’s mother, has been very vocal about seeking justice for her daughter, who was killed in a crude bomb blast on June 23 in Nadia’s Kaliganj.

“She has been under constant pressure and sadness about her daughter’s death. She feels scared that the culprits who are still free will attack her and her family,” a relative of the family said.

She was admitted to a local hospital where her condition stabilised, and was sent home on Wednesday (December 31) night. Later, her condition deteriorated, and she was rushed to a hospital in Kolkata on Thursday.

The minor girl died after crude bombs were hurled during a celebratory procession linked to Kaliganj bypoll results. The victim’s mother named 24 people in the police complaint she filed against the death of her daughter. So far, police have arrested 10 people in relation to this case. A chargesheet has been filed against 13 people.

The death of minor led to widespread protests and criticism across the State.

“The police do not arrest culprits. A mother has lost her child. 24 culprits are right in front of the eyes, but there is no justice,” commenting on the issue, Bharatiya Janta Party MLA Agnimitra Paul said.

However, TMC’s Jay Prakash Majumdar, State Vice President and spokesperson said that many of the culprits have already been arrested. “The police are investigating the matter and taking all necessary actions,” Mr Majumdar said.

Those in distress or having suicidal tendencies could seek help and counselling by calling any of the given numbers.
