A job fair dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities for persons with disabilities was organised at Gokulam here on December 7. PADHA Trust and Devdan Foundation Learning Centre conducted the initiative in association with the Association of People with Disability (APD), Bengaluru.

The initiative focused on supporting candidates with hearing and speech impairments by connecting them with employers from various sectors. Companies offered openings across multiple skill levels, while organisers stressed the growing need for inclusive workplaces. The event also served as a platform for job seekers to interact directly with recruiters, gain career guidance, and explore roles suited to their skill sets, according to a release.

Dhanya Uthappa, chairperson, Devdan Foundation Learning Centre, and Kotera Devaiah, trustee of Devdan Foundation Learning Centre, said that more than 100 candidates took part and that participants interested in entrepreneurship also received information on government schemes and mentorship to help them start their own ventures. The broader aim is to expand employment opportunities and help individuals become economically self-reliant.

APD coordinator Santosh Chacko said that selected candidates will undergo an assessment camp, followed by a 45-day free training session. “We identify their abilities, provide the required training, and then match them with suitable job opportunities,” he said.
