‘My gesture during Assembly speech inadvertent’: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, on Tuesday (September 8, 2026), said his body language (gesture) during his reply on the debate for demand for grants for the Home Department in the Assembly on Monday (September 7) was an inadvertent expression and was not intended to convey any ulterior motive in any manner.

In a post on X, Mr. Vijay requested that his body language not be construed as an act intended to hurt anyone personally.

The Chief Minister’s clarification came against the backdrop of CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam taking strong exception to Mr. Vijay’s body language in the Assembly, accusing him of body-shaming former Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin over the broken jaw he suffered during his detention under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) when the Emergency was imposed in India.
