MPLADS: Telangana’s 23 MPs spend only ₹94 crore of ₹394.8 crore

Telangana’s Members of Parliament have utilised just 23.8% of the funds allocated to them under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) in the last two years, placing the State below the national average of 33%.

Works completed and pending

An analysis of the performance based on the report of the ‘Empowered Indian’, a citizen-led project, reveals that Telangana’s 23 MPs were allocated ₹394.8 crore, of which only ₹94 crore had been spent. A total of 3,703 works were recommended by the MPs, while 2,347 works were shown as completed, indicating an implied completion rate of 63.4%. As many as 1,356 recommended works remain pending based on the figures.

Telangana MPs who spent funds most

The data also reveals wide variations in the spending performance of individual Telangana MPs. The top five spenders are Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri, followed by Mahabubabad MP Balaram Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay, representing the Karimnagar constituency.

Mr. Aravind tops the State with utilisation of 56.18%, having spent ₹15.81 crore out of ₹28.14 crore allocated. Mahabubabad MP Balram Naik is second with 49.20% utilisation, spending ₹7.23 crore out of ₹14.70 crore. Ravi Chandra Vaddiraju recorded 48.24% utilisation, followed by Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy at 42.65% and Bandi Sanjay Kumar at 38.01%.

Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender was allocated the highest at ₹32.74 crores but he utilised only 10.60% of the available funds.

Telangana MPs who spent the least

Among the lowest spenders include Renuka Chowdhury 2.08%, B. Parthasaradhi Reddy (2.43%), Kishan Reddy (3.23%), K. Raghuveer Reddy (4.77%), Asaduddin Owaisi (7.60%), Gaddam Vamsi Krishna (11.03%) and Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy (14.57%). Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whose term is from 2026 to 2032, had not reported any expenditure against ₹7.34 crore allocated in the data.

In other States

Telangana’s utilisation rate is higher than that of Andhra Pradesh (23%), Kerala (21.2%) and Maharashtra (20.2%), but trails Tamil Nadu (43.1%) and Karnataka (28.5%). The State is also well behind the better-performing States, where utilisation rates range from around 45% to nearly 95%.
