More communities to be included in OBC list

The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to include the Balija, Kavarai, Gavara, Gavarai, Gavarai Naidu, Balija Naidu, Gajalu Balija or Valai Chetty on the State list for Other Backward Classes (OBC). The decision was taken on the recommendations of the Kerala State Commission for Backward Classes. The entry ‘Naidu’ in No. 49 B, Schedule List III of the Kerala State and Subordinate Services Rules, 1958, will be amended to ‘Naidu (Balija, Kavarai, Gavara, Gavarai, Gavarai Naidu, Balija Naidu, Gajalu Balija or Valai Chetty). The State government will issue orders in this regard, the Chief Minister’s Office said.
