The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across Maharashtra, with Mumbai expected to witness heavy showers and thunderstorms. The monsoon, which had shown a pause in its progress along the eastern coast, has gained momentum over the past 24 hours.

According to the Pune observatory, rainfall has been recorded in Konkan, Goa, Vidarbha and Marathwada. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Beed, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon and Latur districts for the next four days. The weather department has also warned of heavy rain accompanied by lightning in parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada on July 2 and July 3.

Mumbai is preparing for intensified rainfall, with the IMD forecasting heavy showers and thunderstorms for the city and its suburbs. The forecast issued at 8 a.m. indicated a generally cloudy sky with a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places. The IMD had earlier issued a yellow alert for the city, which may be updated later in the day.

Heavy rainfall in Mumbai has prompted Akasa Air and SpiceJet to issue travel advisories. Akasa Air warned passengers of possible flight disruptions due to adverse weather conditions in Mumbai and Dharamshala. The airline stated that heavy rainfall in Mumbai could lead to delays across its network and urged passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

In Jalna district, the Manda area experienced cloudburst-like rainfall, while Ambad city and surrounding regions witnessed thunderstorms. Water entered Doksala Tanda, causing brief concern among residents. Jalna city also received rainfall during the night. Farmers have expressed satisfaction as the rain is expected to benefit the germination and growth of kharip crops.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and snowfall over higher reaches through June 30. Rainfall activity is expected to become more widespread during the latter part of the forecast period, with isolated locations likely to experience heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts.

The weather department has also forecast heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu. Multiple weather systems have contributed to the revival of the monsoon, which had shown a pause in its progress.
