An 18-year-old delivery executive was allegedly abducted and beaten to death by a local moneylender and his friend, a habitual offender. The accused allegedly abducted the victim in order to recover ₹10,000, which the latter had reportedly borrowed.

The moneylender and his friend was also accused of assaulting the deceased’s elder brother and threatening him with dire consequences if he failed to repay the money.

The victim, identified as Deepak Raj, 18, reportedly returned home after being battered and bruised. He succumbed to his injuries the next day while he was being taken to the hospital.

Based on the medico-legal case, an FIR was filed with the jurisdictional Taverekere Police on September 8, which was later transferred to the Jnanabharati Police Station for further investigation.

The police have registered a murder case against the moneylender, identified as Soma, and his friend Rajesha, along with their associates, who are reportedly on the run.

Deepak worked as a delivery agent, while his brother was a daily-wage employee, the police said. The duo was living with their mother Yashodha, 38, a single parent, who is employed with a garment factory.

Deepak had reportedly borrowed money from Soma at a high rate of interest. After Deepak was unable to repay the amount, Soma reportedly called him to an isolated place at Manganahalli Gudde and allegedly assaulted him before siezing his scooter.
