During the recent Assembly election, those campaigning in the 37 Assembly constituencies in the Kancheepuram-Tiruvallur-Chennai-Chengalpattu area had raised the issue of delay in the release of the Third Master Plan for Chennai city. There has been a demand for fine-tuning the plan to make Chennai a future-ready city.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) was expected to release the Third Master Plan (TMP) 2026-2047, with approval from the State government, during Pongal 2026. However, the deadline was missed. CMDA officials said they would expedite the work, but there has been no fresh timeline for studies or a revised deadline for the plan.
