Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has stressed that all irrigation projects must be completed within stipulated timelines, warning officials and agencies of strict action in case of delays.

Reviewing the progress of major irrigation projects through a video conference on Tuesday, the Minister expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work, particularly in tunnel lining under the Veligonda Project.

He said repeated assurances of improvement were unacceptable and those responsible for delays would be summoned to Amaravati to explain themselves.

Mr. Ramanaidu said the government is committed to completing irrigation works on a priority and fixed deadlines for each project. He emphasised that officials, engineers, and contractors must work with accountability and coordination.

The Minister also reviewed the progress of the Polavaram Left Main Canal and directed that works be completed before the upcoming season to ensure the supply of Godavari water up to Anakapalli. He instructed officials to expedite the construction of bridges at highway crossings.

He noted that after the Polavaram Project and Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi, priority is being given to Veligonda and Polavaram Left Main Canal works.

The Minister said weekly progress reports on Veligonda works should be submitted to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He added that steps are being taken to release rehabilitation compensation to displaced families soon.

Mr. Ramanaidu said the government aims to complete Veligonda works by June to enable filling of Nallamala Sagar, as directed by the Chief Minister.

Senior officials, including Irrigation Advisor Venkateswara Rao, ENC Narasimha Murthy, and project engineers, participated in the review meeting.
