Minister for NRT (Non-Resident Telugu) Relations and Empowerment Kondapalli Srinivas on Friday (October 10, 2025) urged officials of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for early establishment of related departmental offices in the new capital Amaravati. The Minister emphasised the need to strengthen coordination between the Central and State agencies to resolve issues faced by the NRT (Non-Resident Telugu) community.

Speaking at a programme “Videsh Sampark” organised by the MEA and the State government, Mr. Srinivas highlighted the need for joint efforts at both Central and State levels to support migrant workers facing hardships abroad and the families of those who have passed away overseas. He appealed for enhanced embassy assistance for victims in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and other countries, who face difficulties due to fraudulent recruiters.

Pointing out that Andhra Pradesh plays a key role in foreign exchange earnings through aqua exports, the Minister suggested a roadmap with MEA’s support to expand into new international markets. He also requested that passport services for foreign students be expedited and proposed setting up a new Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Kadapa to serve the Rayalaseema region.

Mr. Srinivas spoke about the need for collaboration between APNRT and MEA to share information about overseas employment opportunities, train local youth, and provide recognition and assistance to migrant workers through improved coordination with embassies. To encourage NRI investments, the Minister suggested hosting “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas” in Amaravati and urged for an early start of the MEA building complex in Amaravati, which would allow citizens to access all external affairs services in one location.

The Minister also recommended setting up of medical testing facilities within Andhra Pradesh to avoid travel to Hyderabad for pre-departure medical checks. He also stressed on the importance of appointing nodal officers to ensure prompt resolution of issues faced by NRTs. The programme was attended by representatives of the State government and officials of APNRT and MEA.
