Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshanapur stated that the State government would protect the land, water, language, culture, and interests of the State.

He was addressing the gathering after unfurling the national flag in Yadgir on the occasion of the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava on Saturday.

The unification movement gained momentum after Kannada Kulapurohit Aloor Venkataraya raised his voice in 1905. The then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru formed the Justice Fazal Ali Committee for State reorganisation, and on November 1, 1956, the separate parts of Kannada-speaking areas were united, and a separate Mysore State was formed, he recalled.

He said that the Mysore State was renamed as Karnataka on November 1, 1973, when D. Devraj Urs was Chief Minister, and since then, the Congress party had been protecting the state and its interest, land, language and water.

Kannada is one of the oldest languages, having 2,000 years of history, and it was mentioned in Kannada’s first novel, Kaviraj Marg, that the Kannada state was spread from Kaveri to Godavari. “The kings of Kadambas, Rashtrakutas, Vijaynagar Emperors, Wodeyars, Chalukyas, Gangas, and Tipu had made the language, literature, and art rich, and then the prominent writers, actors, and literati have remarkably contributed to developing language,” Mr. Darshanapur explained.

Appealing to the public to show honesty to the State and language continuously, not only for a day every November, the Minister said the pride of the State, Vachana literature, Janapada, Hantipada, Dollinapada, Bayalata, Yakshagana, and Dasa literature, should be carried forward for the next generation.

The achievers in different fields were felicitated. The tableau highlighting Karnataka’s history, language, water, and the State government’s achievements and cultural activities and songs were attracted the gathering.

Channareddy Patil Tunnur, MLA; Baburao Chinchansur, chairman of Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdaiah Development Board; Sharanappa Saladpur, MLA; Lalita Anapur, CMC Chairperson; Baburao Kadlur, Chairman of the Yadgir Urban Development Authority; Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar, CEO Lavish Ordia, Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kolar, Assistant Commissioner Sridhar Gotur and others were present.
