Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare M.R.K. Panneerselvam on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the restoration of two heritage structures — the Medical Officer’s bungalow dating back to the 17th century and the over a century-old Port Officer’s building at Devanampattinam in Cuddalore.

The restoration work is being taken up by the Building Centre and Conservation Division of the Public Works Department (PWD) at an estimated cost of ₹10.15 crore.

Both the buildings were not in use for the last several decades and remained in a distressed condition.

Mr. Panneerselvam said that improvement works to the tune of ₹4.98 crore were under way at the Silver Beach in Cuddalore to increase tourist footfall. The works, include setting up of Neithal park, sign boards and a toilet complex. In addition, various beautification and improvement works were also in progress at the beach.

Works were being executed to create facilities, including a jogging track, watch tower, LED streetlights, CCTV, improved parking space, comfort station, and a cafetaria, at a cost of ₹4 crore.

The renovation of the Subburayulu park in Cuddalore is nearing completion and will soon be thrown open to the public, he said.

Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar participated.
