Food and Civil Minister G.R. Anil has assured all possible assistance to a family headed by a widowed and ailing mother with two young children in Pothencode.

The assurance came after the Minister on Wednesday visited the home of Biji, whose difficult life situation recently drew public attention. The visit came after it came to light that Biji’s son Godson, a Class 7 student of Konchira school, had taken up lottery ticket sales to support the family.

Biji’s husband, a native of Kottarakkara, had passed away earlier. This pushed the family into severe financial distress. The family presently resided at a rented house at Pavukonam in Pothencode.

The Minister intervened to issue a priority ration card to the family, ensuring monthly food supplies and access to free medical treatment. The Minister also informed that support from voluntary organisations will be mobilised for constructing a house. Assurances were also made to provide Biji employment through a Kudumbashree micro-enterprise.
