The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will operate special bus from Saturday (January 25, 2026) and continuing till February 1 for the Medaram Jatara — set to celebrated between January 28 and January 31. The transport giant will press into service around 4,000 buses for the Jatara, even as officials pointed out that city and inter-district bus services, including those plying within the Greater Hyderabad Zone, will be affected on account of diversion of buses.

Traffic-generating points identified

According to officials, a temporary bus station has been set up at Medaram on around 50 acres of land which has been allotted by the Mulugu District administration. Buses will be pooled from all districts of the State, including Hyderabad, to operate the special services. As many as 51 traffic-generating points across the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Khammam, besides Hyderabad, have been identified for operating special buses to Medaram.

Officials said the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free travel for women aboard TGSRTC buses, is expected to substantially boost pilgrim movement this year.

Around 20 lakh pilgrims are estimated to travel by the Corporation buses during this period, compared to 16.82 lakh passengers transported by 3,491 TGSRTC buses during the 2024 Jatara.

50 queue lines for 20,000 passengers

To manage the rush, 50 queue lines with a combined length of about nine kilometres have been arranged at the temporary bus station. The move is to facilitate around 20,000 passengers to board buses at a time. Temporary sheds covering 1.10 lakh sq. ft. have been set up for passenger waiting areas, crew rest rooms and maintenance activities. Parking facilities spanning 25.76 acres have been developed at Medaram and Kamaram to accommodate about 1,000 buses.

More than 10,400 personnel, including drivers, conductors, security staff and officers, will be deployed round the clock. A command and control centre equipped with 76 CCTV cameras has been set up at Medaram, along with route patrolling, medical camps, drinking water facilities and coordination with police and district administrations to ensure smooth movement of the buses.
