Martyrs’ Day marked in Belagavi

Martyrs’ Day was observed on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary in Belagavi on Friday. Members of Samana Manaskara Sangha held a meeting and formed a human chain in Kittur Channamma circle. Yallappa Himmadi, writer and chairman of Betageri Krishna Sharma Trust, labour leader G.V. Kulkarni and others addressed the gathering. Leaders of various religions participated in the meeting.

Another meeting was held in the central library. Officers and visitors held a two minute silence.

Deputy Director Ramaiah said that the purpose of the day was to pay tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Librarian S.S. Seemimath, Anand Muthagi, Sumit Kavale, Prakash Ichalkaranji, Sunil Kumar, Sangeeta Navi, E.N. Ambekara, and all staff were present.
