A man ended his life under suspicious circumstances at Piduguralla in Palnadu district on Wednesday, amid allegations that he blamed police harassment in a purported suicide note.
However, police denied the allegations, stating that no summons had been issued to the deceased and that the note was yet to be verified.
According to police, the deceased, Sk. Dariya Hussain, was not called for questioning. Gurazala DSP M. Maheswara Rao said only Amarunnisa Begum, wife of Dariya Hussain, had been asked to appear before the Piduguralla police in connection with a land dispute.
Explaining the background, the DSP said Prasanth, son of P. Lakshmi, had purchased a 78-square-yard plot from Masthan Bi and later entered into an agreement to sell it to Amarunnisa Begum after receiving an advance.
Subsequently, the land was included in the prohibited list under Section 22-A, following which the remaining sale consideration was allegedly withheld.
Lakshmi later submitted a grievance through the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS), which was forwarded by the District Collector to the Piduguralla police for inquiry. Based on this, Amarunnisa Begum was summoned to the police station.
Meanwhile, reports circulating locally claimed that a purported suicide note accused Piduguralla Circle Inspector Sriram Venkata Rao of harassment, alleging threats to vacate a house despite the dispute being pending before a court and warning of a ganja case if the family failed to comply.
The DSP said the alleged suicide note had not yet been received by the police. He clarified that the wife of the deceased lodged a complaint that due to the continuous harassment by P. Lakshmi and Prasant, her husband ended his life.
Police registered a case under section 306 IPC and 108 BNS. Police said the exact circumstances leading to the death would be established after the investigation.
