A 51-year-old private firm employee allegedly strangled his live-in partner to death and later ended his life at their residence near Indira Priyadarshini Nagar, under the Rajagopalnagar police station limits, on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Lakshminarayana, who was separated from his wife and was living with his partner, Lalitha, 49, an employee at a rubber factory. Lalitha’s husband died 15 years ago, and she is survived by her 25-year-old daughter. The couple had been residing at a rented house in Indira Priyadarshini Nagar.

According to the police, the incident came to light around 9.30 a.m. when a neighbour noticed the main door partially open. Finding no movement, he entered the house and discovered the bodies of Lakshminarayana and Lalitha. He alerted the Rajagopalagar police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the couple were in a live-in relationship for 10 years. The police said Lakshminarayana had grown increasingly suspicious of Lalitha, leading to frequent quarrels. An argument on Monday night reportedly escalated, during which he allegedly strangled Lalitha. Bloodstains found on the wall and floor indicate that she may have resisted, police officials said.

After killing her, Lakshminarayana is suspected to have ended his life. The exact trigger is still under investigation, the police said.

The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation is on.
