A lottery agent in Kattoor near Thrissur has fallen victim to a scam when a man presented colour copies of six winning Samrudhi Lottery tickets, cheating him out of ₹14,700.
On September 27, a man on a bike approached lottery agent Nelliparambil Thejas. He presented some lottery tickets and asked him to check if they had won any prizes in the September 21 draw.
On scanning the QR code, Mr. Thejas found that some of them had won consolation prizes of ₹5,000 each. He paid the man ₹14,700 after deducting the agent commission.
But the fraud was discovered when Mr. Thejas presented the tickets for official verification. He was told that the prize money had been claimed and collected from the treasury in Alappuzha on September 23, and that the tickets he presented were copies.
Mr. Thejas filed a complaint with the police, and an investigation is on. Police said they made some progress in the investigation with the help of surveillance camera footages.
