The Ernakulam Rural cybercrime police have booked a 44-year-old man for allegedly making threatening and defamatory comments against Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath. The accused, Joby, is a native of Mekkad in Nedumbassery.

He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody in connection with a robbery case near Aluva railway station on September 13. After being released on bail, he allegedly made the remarks against the MLA on social media on October 20. He posted a video claiming that he had been framed in the robbery case. He was allegedly provoked by the MLA’s statement to the media demanding the maximum punishment for the accused in the case.

Mr. Joby has been booked on charges including criminal defamation. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by an Aluva native.
