The Kumbalgodu Police have arrested a 40-year-old travel agency owner and recovered firecrackers worth ₹10.3 lakh. He had allegedly stored these illegally in a godown and planned to sell it to people ahead of Deepavali.

Based on a tip-off, a team of officials raided the godown in Samruddhi Layout and seized 317 boxes of firecrackers, which he had allegedly stashed without any safety measures.

According to the police, the accused, Athi Subramanya, owner of Padmesh travels in Kalasipalya, had purchased the firecrackers without a bill from Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, before transporting these to the city in a truck.

City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh held a meeting recently and directed the police to amp up vigilance and crack down on illegal sales of firecrackers.
