In a major boost to adventure tourism in the Malabar region, Kodenchery is set to host a high-octane ‘Off-Road Fun Drive’ on Saturday (June 20, 2026) as part of the build-up to the 12th International White Water Kayaking Championship, a curtain-raiser to the Malabar River Festival.

The event will officially kick off at 9.30 a.m. at the Eeruth Thusharagiri Adventure Park, with Thiruvambady MLA C.K. Kasim inaugurating the rally and Kodenchery grama panchayat president Annakutty Devassya presiding over the function.

The tourism initiative is being organised through a collaborative effort led by the State Tourism department and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Council, along with three panchayats. The fun drive is being coordinated in partnership with the Kodenchery grama panchayat, Calicut Jeepers, and the Kodenchery Eeruth Thusharagiri Adventure Park Management.

“More than 40 off-road vehicles have registered to test their endurance across the rugged terrain of the region, navigating a challenging route through the Eeruth Kainady estate and across Veliyoram Mala to its scenic sunset point,” said Binu Kuriakose, chief executive officer of Adventure Tourism.

The event is designed to engage motorsports enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “All safety measures have been put in place. A dedicated technical team will oversee the arrangements, and the programme is being conducted with the support and clearance of the Motor Vehicles department and the Fire and Rescue Services,” Mr. Kuriakose added.

The championship will be held from July 30 to August 2 in Chalippuzha and Iruvazhinjipuzha. To build momentum ahead of the event, local authorities have lined up a series of promotional activities.

The activities will include monsoon treks to Thevarmala and Thusharagiri, a mass cycling rally, a badminton tournament, a painting camp, and cultural performances featuring traditional tribal dances and Udukku Kotti.
