Malabar Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Malabar Milma) in Kerala will distribute ₹5.04 crore as an Onam gift to dairy farmers this season.
The package comprises ₹4.2 crore as an additional milk price payout and ₹84 lakh in cattle feed subsidies. Nearly 1,00,000 dairy farmers and around 1,200 primary Anand Pattern Co-operative Societies (APCOS) across the Malabar region will benefit from this initiative, Milma chairman K. S. Mani has said.
An additional milk price of ₹2 per litre will be paid for standard-quality milk supplied to the regional union via the APCOS between June 1 and 30. The additional price for the 210 lakh litres of milk collected during this period totals ₹4.2 crore, which will reach dairy farmers across Malabar’s six districts in the coming days. The decision was finalised during a meeting of the Malabar Milma board, he said.
Under the subsidy scheme running throughout August, a discount of ₹100 per 50 kg bag will be provided for Milma Gomathy Gold and Milma Bipro cattle feed distributed through co-operative societies in the regional union.
Besides, a subsidy of ₹50 per bag will be offered on pelletised Total Mixed Ration feed from the Malabar Rural Development Foundation. In cases where feed supply is disrupted and societies purchase silage directly, a subsidy of 75 paise per kg for farmers and 25 paise per kg for societies has been announced.
With this latest payout, the regional union has transferred ₹10 crore to farmers in this financial year alone, over and above the standard milk procurement prices, through additional milk price payouts and cattle feed subsidies.
The additional milk price amount would be credited to the societies’ accounts alongside the milk payments due for August 1 to 10, and the societies will disburse these funds to the dairy farmers before Onam, Mr. Mani added.
