Maharashtra police have arrested Bijendra Gupta, the alleged prime accused in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak case, from Bihar. Another person has also been taken into custody along with him. However, it has not been revealed yet from which district he has been arrested.

According to police sources, the Bhiwandi police arrested Gupta, and the accused in the paper leak case has been brought to Pune Airport and will be taken to Bhiwandi from there.

The Maharashtra Special Task Force (STF) and Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case had raided a ‘Quick Digital Cyber Cafe’ on July 1, located at Kachhari Road in Hajipur in Vaishali district. After which, three individuals, including cafe operator Sonu Kumar, were taken into custody and questioned. The investigation also revealed a link between Sonu Kumar and the alleged mastermind of the case, Bijendra Gupta, a resident of Samastipur district in Bihar.

Sources in the Hajipur police said that following the confession of Sonu Kumar, a cyber cafe operator was also arrested in Hajipur. Earlier, the police had also arrested Pawan Kumar from Delhi and Hariom Panu from Haryana; both accused were close associates of Bijendra Gupta, who is a resident of Samastipur district.

A team comprising the Bihar STF and the Bhiwandi police from Maharashtra’s Thane district had earlier arrested Bijendra Gupta’s wife, Suman Kumari on July 1, 2026, from Patna district under the Agamkuan police station area after call records and financial trails linked her to him.

The TET 2026 was postponed on June 27, a day before it was to be held, after police in Thane district found that a part of its question paper had been leaked and arrested three people.

The SIT uncovered that the racket was spread across Delhi, Agra, Bihar, and Haryana. The TET paper leak, which followed the national scandal caused by the NEET-UG paper leak, has affected nearly 6 lakh candidates.
