Lorry runs over women labourers in Kakinada; four killed, two critical

At least four women labourers have died on the spot and two women survived with major injuries after a lorry ploughed into them while they were crossing Kovvur bridge in Kakinada city on Saturday (May 16, 2026).

The incident occurred when the group of six women were on their way to attend work under the VB-G RAM G, formerly known as MGNREGA.

The deceased have been identified as Vasamsetti Satyavathi (60), Palika Krishnaveni (35), Ms. Chittemma (45) and Chelluri Annavaram (45) as per the preliminary report of the Kakinada police.

The survivors, identified as Matta parthi Aruna Kumari and Palika Nagamani, have been shifted to Kakinada Government General Hospital, where they are battling for life.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister and Kakinada District In-charge Minister P. Narayana directed the district officials to ensure better treatment to the survivors. The Indrapalem police have registered a case and the investigation is on.
