Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Monday (July 6, 2026) said his party would form government in Jammu and Kashmir in the near future.

“Like Jammu, the lotus will bloom in Kashmir as well and Jammu and Kashmir will have a BJP government in the near future,” said Mr. Nabin, who arrived in Jammu on a two-day visit to review the party’s organisational affairs.

Mr. Nabin’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir came on the 125th birth anniversary of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who died in a Jammu and Kashmir jail in 1953, and paid tributes to him.

“Mookerjee devoted his life to strengthening the unity of the country. His vision for Jammu and Kashmir was realised after decades. The BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi accomplished Mookerjee’s vision for Jammu and Kashmir and ended the special constitutional status and integrated the region fully with the rest of the country,” said Mr. Nabin.

Reflecting on the changes in Jammu and Kashmir after abrogation of provisions of Article 370 in 2019, Mr. Nabin said, “Previous governments had created an atmosphere. Hoisting the national flag in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk was viewed as a challenge to peace. The situation has changed under the Modi government and the Tricolour now furls without fear,” said the BJP president.

He said Jammu and Kashmir’s youth were establishing themselves in the fields of sports and other fields and the region once associated with unrest was earning recognition through achievements in sports.

“The move (of 2019) brought real freedom and opened new opportunities for the people. The Centre’s welfare measures had helped millions of people across the country rise above poverty,” he added.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of party workers welcomed the BJP chief. He also reviewed the party functioning and focused on expanding the party’s footsteps in the Kashmir valley.

On Tuesday, the BJP chief will visit the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple before paying tributes to Prem Nath Dogra at his statue in Dogra Chowk. He is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with BJP members of Parliament and legislators, former elected representatives.
