Light to moderate rain is very likely in Rayalaseema and at one or two places in South Coastal A.P. from November 23 to 26, as a low-pressure area has formed over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining South Andaman Sea at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is very likely to move west-northwestwards, and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and South Andaman Sea around November 24.
Continuing to move west northwestwards, it is very likely to intensify further over southwest Bay of Bengal around November 26.
However, the Saturday’s bulletin did not mention if the depression would intensify into a cyclone, while the same was conveyed earlier.
“There are chances of formation of a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal. But it has not been officially declared yet. We will have to wait for three days,” said IMD-Amaravati senior scientist S. Karunasagar.
At present, there are no weather warnings for the State. But, squally weather, with wind speeds reaching 35 kmph to 45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph, will prevail over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.
A few places in the districts of Kadapa, Tirupati, Annamayya received light to moderate showers on November 21, Friday. The day’s highest of 90 mm was recorded in Kodur of Kadapa and Penagaluru of Annamayya districts.
