The J&K Police on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) said it killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist in south Kashmir’s Shopian after a five-day long anti-militancy operation.

“One Lashkar terrorist neutralised by (the Police’s) Special Operation Group, Shopian, in a joint operation along with the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF,” said a police spokesman.

The body of the terrorist, believed to be a local, was spotted at Saidapora area of Shopian. Officials said arms and ammunition were also seized from the encounter site.

A gunfight between terrorists and security forces erupted on July 4 in Shopian after two terrorists were spotted in the area. Since then, the security forces continued the operation in the area. The police are ascertaining the identity of the slain terrorist.
