Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate C.K. Sabita was elected president of the Pullur-Periye grama panchayat in Kasaragod, Kerala, on Monday (December 29, 2025) after the winner was decided by a draw of lots, ending weeks of uncertainty over the local body’s leadership.

The draw of lots became necessary as both the LDF and the United Democratic Front (UDF) secured nine votes each in the election. The tie occurred after an elected member, though present in the meeting, abstained from voting. Following the draw conducted by the authorities as per the rules, the verdict went in favour of the LDF with Ms. Sabita defeating UDF candidate Usha N. Nair.

With Ms. Sabita’s election, the LDF has regained control of the panchayat.
