A 31-year-old labourer was hammered to death allegedly over a drunken brawl at a construction site in J.P. Nagar 8th stage during the early hours of Monday.

The victim has been identified as Bhagirath Bapri, a native of West Bengal.

According to the police, Bapri and another labourer, Biplab Mandal, 27, who were both working and residing at the construction site, consumed alcohol together late at night. An argument broke out between the two over a trivial issue after Bapri allegedly used abusive words against the mother of the accused, which soon escalated into an altercation.

In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly attacked Bapri with a hammer, resulting in fatal injuries. The incident came to light the next morning when other workers arrived at the site and found Bapri dead. Based on information, the Konanakunte police conducted an inspection and registered a case.

The police later tracked down Mandal and took him into custody for further investigation.
