Former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya described the ‘Labour Codes’ introduced by the Modi government as transformative reforms that would shape India’s economic future.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he termed the consolidation of 29 existing labour laws into four comprehensive labour codes, a landmark step aimed at simplicity, transparency, and efficiency, for workers’ welfare.

Recalling his tenure as Union Minister for Labour and Employment in 2017, Mr. Dattatreya said that the foundational work for these reforms was initiated then. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for guiding the reform process.

“Being part of these reforms is one of the greatest honours of my life,” he said, adding that the new codes extend social security to all categories of workers, including those in the unorganised sector.
