Anticipating the addition of three more boats to the fleet in the coming months, efforts are under way to extend Water Metro ferry services to the High Court-Kadamakudy route, a corridor with immense tourism potential.

There has been consistent demand to operate electric-hybrid ferries on the route, given the increasing number of visitors to Kadamakudy for tourism and activities such as kayaking, official sources said.

“While a ferry terminal was built at the location earlier this year, work on readying floating pontoons and infrastructure to recharge the ferries is progressing. In addition, the area around the terminal needs to be dredged. The remaining three ferries, out of the total 23 ordered by Kochi Water Metro Limited from Cochin Shipyard, will in all probability be deployed on the route,” said Sajan John, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML).
