The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has issued orders allowing a conditional 50% concession in the revised water tariffs to differently abled persons, orphanages and old-age homes. The conditions for the concession include an annual income below ₹2 lakh, and a monthly water consumption limit below 15 kilolitres. The concession will be applicable to consumption up to 60 kilolitres a month. Fresh applications have to be submitted before March 31 every year for availing the concession. Other than families with autistic/differently abled members, orphanages registered under the Orphanage Control Board and old-age homes that offer their services free of charge are eligible for the concession. The KWA had issued orders in February 2023 hiking water charges by 1 paise per litre. At present, supply is free of charge to BPL families having a monthly consumption of up to 15 kilolitres. For old-age homes and orphanages under the Board, domestic tariffs apply.
