Kumarapalayam constituency, 58 km away from Namakkal town and known for its power loom units and spinning mills, was formed in 2008 by bifurcating Tiruchengode and Sankari Assembly segments.

The many power loom units in the constituency employ over 50,000 people while spinning mills provide jobs to more than 30,000. Covering Kumarapalayam taluk; Kumarapalayam and Pallipalayam municipalities; and Padaiveedu and Alampalayam town panchayats, the constituency elected P. Thangamani of the AIADMK in 2011, 2016 and 2021.
