Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday (July 2, 2026) accused the Congress government of blocking Opposition leaders from holding a debate and described police action at Telangana Bhavan and Gun Park as “disgraceful.”

Speaking to reporters at the Telangana Bhavan main gates after he was prevented from travelling to Kanchanbagh police station where the BRS leaders T. Harish Rao and others were detained, KTR said BRS leaders had gathered at Telangana Bhavan at 10 a.m. to meet Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, who had earlier challenged the party to a discussion.

“We even kept a chair ready and a shawl prepared to welcome him, but he did not come,” KTR said. He alleged that when Mr. Harish Rao and other leaders attempted to move towards Gun Park, police arrested them before they could leave the premises.

He questioned why the government was reluctant to engage in debate. “If the Chief Minister has courage, let him convene a special Assembly session. We are ready to discuss corruption, failures, and the State’s debt situation over the past 30 months,” he said. He demanded the immediate release of Mr. Harish Rao and other detained leaders, who were taken to Kanchanbagh police station.

The BRS leader also raised questions about pending investigations, including Enforcement Directorate raids on Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, alleged irregularities in Amrit tenders, and contracts awarded to BJP MPs under the Congress government. “Why has no action been taken even after the Prime Minister himself spoke about ‘RR tax’ collections in the state?” KTR asked.

He criticised the government for what he described as “running away from debate” and using police to suppress dissent. “Ministers throw challenges while sitting comfortably, but when we accept, they flee. This shows the government’s downfall,” he said.
