Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao appeared before the the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday (January 23, 2026) for questioning in connection with the phone tapping case. The former minister arrived at the Jubilee Hills Assistant Commissioner of Police at 11 a.m. amid heavy police deployment.
Tension prevailed near the Jubilee Hills police station as BRS representatives and party workers staged a protest, with police personnel seen struggling to control the crowd.
The questioning followed summons issued by the SIT, which stated that its probe had indicated the former minister was aware of certain facts and circumstances linked to the case and required his examination.
Earlier this week, former Irrigation Minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao had appeared before the office for questioning in the same case.
The Telangana government recently constituted a 10-member Special Investigation Team, headed by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, to expedite the investigation, nearly 21 months after the case was registered. The case pertains to allegations that phones were illegally intercepted through the Special Intelligence Branch to benefit the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
