Krishna District Collector D.K. Balaji visited Manginapudi beach and Challapalli on Sunday to review preparedness measures in view of the cyclonic storm Montha.

Emphasising that a cyclone is very different from a flood, the Collector said while floods mainly affect the Krishna River basin and low-lying villages, a cyclone impacts the entire district. He cautioned that widespread rainfall and strong winds are expected.

At the Manginapudi beach, he instructed police officials not to permit any visitors and later advised fishermen to stay away from the sea during the cyclone.

He directed that cyclone warnings should be announced widely in all villages and people should be made aware. He further instructed officials to ensure proper maintenance of cell towers by keeping power backups, generators, and diesel reserves ready.

On Sunday evening, the District Collector inspected the BSNL and Jio towers in Ramanagaram and Challapalli of Challapalli mandal. Later, he held a meeting with officials at the Challapalli tahsildar’s office to discuss maintenance and preparedness of cell towers in the division.

Control rooms have been set up and will operate round-the-clock. The control rooms are at the Collector’s Office, Machilipatnam: 08672 252572; RDO Office, Machilipatnam: 08672 252486; RTO Office, Gudivada: 08674 243693; RDO Office, Uyyuru: 08676 232589.
