The Chevayur police have registered a case based on a complaint by a 21-year-old who alleged that he was abducted, confined, and blackmailed by a six-member gang during a visit to Bengaluru. The complainant alleged that the group recorded private videos of him and demanded ₹8 lakh, threatening to circulate the footage if he failed to pay.

The police have launched an investigation with the assistance of the cyber cell and are examining digital evidence, including mobile phone records, to identify the accused.

According to the complaint, the youth, a resident of Kozhikode, travelled to Bengaluru on July 24 to meet a friend and stayed at the latter’s flat. He alleged that a group took him outside on the pretext of introducing him to another acquaintance.

The complainant said he was later taken to an isolated location and held there for a week. He alleged that the group recorded videos of him without his consent and sent the footage to his family members.

According to the complaint, the gang later demanded ₹8 lakh and threatened to release more videos if the money was not paid. The complainant said he managed to escape and return to Kerala, following which he approached the Chevayur police.

Police sources said the accused included a woman and five others. Preliminary inquiries indicated that all the suspects were from Kozhikode district and that the motive behind the alleged abduction could be established soon.
