The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) model, earlier introduced for resource mobilisation beyond the Budget, must be modernised and reorganised in line with changing political and economic circumstances, senior CPI(M) leader and former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said.

He was inaugurating a seminar organised in connection with the 150th anniversary of Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, and the centenary of its Department of Economics and later during an interaction with undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He emphasised that equitable sharing of resources across different levels of government and development efforts carried out with assured public participation must be seen as the foundation stone of Kerala’s new developmental phase.

Kerala’s new developmental phase can be meaningfully realised by preparing and implementing an action plan focused on a knowledge economy that builds upon the advances made in education. The next 30 years must be transformed into a period of rapid progress through a revised developmental path based on the developmental achievements of the past seventy years, Mr. Isaac said.

Principal Jolly V. Antony presided. Mr. Isaac also inaugurated the alumni meet of the Department of Economics. Former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand M. Ramachandran was the chief guest. Senior journalist M.K. Das and Registrar of Kalady University Dr. Mothy George offered felicitations.
