The campaign management teams of various parties have quite an unenviable task on their hands following the withdrawal of candidates at the last minute. Confusion prevailed in quite a few wards in the State on the last day of filing nominations to the local body elections.

In the Kuravankonam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate K.C. Soumya, representing the Rashtriya Janata Dal, withdrew her candidature two days before the deadline. The fact that her name did not figure on the voters’ list, an issue faced by some other candidates, led her to withdraw from the contest. Although a replacement candidate was quickly found, the flex boards and wall writings of the withdrawn candidate can be still seen all over the ward. The campaign team now has to not only fix new posters, but also ensure that the old ones are removed, so that voters are not left confused.
