Kerala Nadanam is slowly and surely finding its moment at the State School Arts Festival. A large number of people assembled at the Kerala Sahithya Akademi to watch the higher secondary (HSS) girls take part in the event.
“Over 20 students had arrived to contest, appeals included,” said M.A. Nanma, a student of PKK SM HSS, Kayamkulam. “This itself shows the dance form is getting more popular. Compared to Kuchipudi or Bharatanatyam, Kerala Nadanam is slow. Sometimes the general public might find it difficult to understand.”
Dance teacher Kalamandalam Sathyavrathan said more students are now learning Kerala Nadanam. “Personally I love to perform and teach Kerala Nadanam, mostly because it gives more space and freedom for the artist to perform and act,” he said.
