Chairman of the Karnataka State Waqf Board and the Sajjada Nasheen of Hazrath Khwaja Bandanawaz Dargah Syed Muhammad Ali Al-Hussaini visited KBN University’s Department of Engineering and Technology in Kalaburagi on Wednesday to review the ongoing work of digitising waqf properties under the UMEED (Unified Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development) portal launched by the Union government.

During his visit to the computer laboratory, Al-Hussaini examined the data uploading work being carried out as part of the nationwide digitisation and management initiative for waqf assets. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and praised the dedication of the students and faculty members of the university who are assisting in the project.

“The data uploading work is progressing rapidly across about 45 computer systems. The project will be completed in three phases – maker, verification, and approval. The maker phase, which is under way at KBN University, is expected to be completed soon, after which the remaining stages will follow,” Al-Hussaini said.

According to him, Karnataka has around 3,300 waqf institutions and 36,000 waqf properties, of which 4,500 institutions and 6,000 properties are located in Kalaburagi district alone. He noted that the data uploading process has already been completed in several parts of the State and is in progress in others.

“Some States have sought an extension of the deadline from the Central government, and if granted, it will help complete the work more accurately,” he said.

District Waqf Officer Abdul Mannan said that any property disputes or claims related to waqf assets were also being recorded on the portal to ensure transparency and accountability.
