Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has sought English translations and authenticated copies of documents submitted by the Lokayukta Police while seeking sanction to prosecute former Minister and senior Congress leader B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan in a disproportionate assets case, official sources said.

Sources in Lok Bhavan said the proposal and supporting records submitted to the Governor were in Kannada. The Governor is learnt to have asked the Lokayukta to furnish authenticated English translations before taking a decision on the request for prosecution sanction.

The Lokayukta Police recently submitted a proposal, running into thousands of pages, seeking the Governor’s approval to prosecute Mr. Khan for allegedly amassing assets worth about ₹25 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income. The sanction is required before a chargesheet can be filed before the Special Lokayukta Court.

Originated from IMA

The investigation traces its origin to material allegedly recovered during the Directorate of Enforcement’s probe into the 2018 IMA (I Monetary Advisory) scam. Based on the findings, the Enforcement Directorate had recommended that the then Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) register a disproportionate assets case. After the ACB was abolished in Karnataka, the investigation was transferred to the Lokayukta Police.

According to sources, investigators examined Mr. Khan’s financial records from 2005 to 2025, covering his tenure as an MLA and Minister. They scrutinised his declared income, assets, bank transactions, business interests, properties, expenditure, foreign travel and loan transactions, and reportedly found discrepancies in documentation relating to loans involving more than 30 individuals.
